General Practice Questions

What are your opening hours?

Our practice is open Monday to Friday, 8 am – 6 pm. We are closed on Saturdays and Sundays. For urgent dental advice when we’re closed, registered patients can call our out-of-hours advice line.

You can call us on 01908 611 478 or use our online booking form through the Contact page.

We accept most major payment options including credit/debit cards (Visa, Mastercard), contactless payments, Apple Pay/Google Pay, and cash (where permitted). Some treatments can be financed or paid via plans such as Denplan or monthly finance options — please ask our reception team for details.

Deposits help secure your appointment and cover preparatory administrative costs. They also help reduce last-minute cancellations, allowing fair access to appointments for all patients.

Our Practice Manager is Nicole McLean, who oversees smooth operations and ensures the team delivers safe and personalised services to every patient.

We offer Denplan Essentials and Denplan Care — flexible plans that help spread the cost of routine dental care and preventive treatment.

Oral Health and Preventive Dentistry

How often should I have a dental check-up?

Most patients will benefit from check-ups every 6 months, but your dentist will advise what frequency is right for your oral health needs.

Gum disease is caused by plaque build-up around the gum line, leading to inflammation and bleeding gums. Good oral hygiene — brushing twice a day, flossing daily and regular dental cleanings — are key to prevention.

Yes. Our team is experienced in working with patients who feel anxious about dental treatment. Please let us know — we’ll take extra time to explain procedures and help you feel comfortable.

Emergency Dental Care

Do you offer emergency appointments?

Yes – we provide same-day emergency dental care for registered patients experiencing severe pain, loose or broken teeth, lost fillings, or other urgent issues. Contact us as soon as possible for advice or to book.

If you’re a registered patient, you can call our emergency advice line (details on our Contact page) for guidance. If symptoms are severe (e.g., uncontrolled bleeding or swelling affecting breathing), you should seek urgent care via NHS 111 or your local A&E.

Tooth Extractions & Aftercare

Why might a tooth need to be extracted?

Common reasons include severe decay, gum disease, infection, trauma, or impacted teeth that can’t be saved by other treatments. Your dentist will discuss all options with you first.

After an extraction:

  • Bite gently on gauze to help blood clot formation.
  • Avoid rinsing, spitting, or using a straw in the first 24 hours.
  • Eat soft foods and avoid hot, spicy or hard foods initially.
  • Keep up good oral hygiene, being gentle around the extraction site.
  • Use pain relief as recommended by your dentist.

A dry socket happens when the protective blood clot in the extraction site fails to form or is dislodged, exposing bone and nerves and causing pain.
Prevention tips include:

  • Avoid smoking or using straws after extraction
  • Don’t touch or rinse the socket vigorously in the first day
  • Stick to a soft diet and gentle salt-water rinses after 24 hrs
If you suspect dry socket (increasing pain 3–5 days after extraction, bad taste or smell), contact us immediately.
