Dentures do more than replace missing teeth — they can help to restore your confidence and quality of your life. They replace missing teeth using a removable prosthetic that fits over the gaps. Dentures attach to the roof of the mouth or gums using wire, an acrylic plate or a special adhesive.

You may be surprised at how natural dentures can look and feel. With the quality, comfort and the natural-looking appearance of dentures, you’ll find dentures that you’ll feel comfortable and confident wearing. They come in two forms:

• Partial Dentures — Partial dentures replace several missing teeth, but they also make it easier for you to chew food, improve your speech and support your cheeks to make you appear more youthful. Removable partial dentures have prosthetic teeth attached to an acrylic base that matches the colour of your gums. They have some form of clasps that attach to your natural teeth and hold the denture in place.
• Full Dentures — Full dentures are for patients who have lost all their natural teeth. They are fitted into an acrylic base that is crafted to mimic your gums. The upper denture features a plate, which covers the roof of your mouth and the lower denture is usually a horse-shoe shape that rests securely on the gums.

Discuss with your dentist which option is best for you based on how many teeth you have missing. The dentist will take an impression of your mouth and send it off to a lab, where a technician will create your dentures. Some patients experience an initial adjustment period. As you age your jawbone can shrink so you need to schedule regular dental check-ups to ensure you are wearing the best fitting dentures.
